MY EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY

In my opinion, education is moving an individual out of a state of not knowing to knowing, understanding, reasoning and analyzing. Therefore, education is important to everyone’s life. In order to understand, one has to have the ability to read and write which are the basic concepts of education that is first learned as a child. Education helps with the essential things in life. It helps us to know who we are and what place we will have in society. Education is necessary if one wants to have a better way of life.
Education is coming out of the dark and into the light. Without education we will be like prisoners having no knowledge of our surroundings. Therefore, education equals knowledge and knowledge is power. Without education we will not have the power to be and do anything. If you want to apply for a job you would have to be knowledgeable of filling out an application. In this case education is important because without it you will not know where to begin.
Students should make an effort to be involved in their own education. They should not be dependent on their teachers. Students should be cooperative and interactive in their education, with teachers and classmates. They should prepare themselves for class so that they can participate in class discussions, this means reading ahead of time. They should make the effort to complete their assignments on time, spend less time on the computer, chatrooms, and telephone which takes away valuable time that should be spent on class work. The most effective student is one who takes their education seriously and maximizes their time effectively. They should socialize in groups, study with classmates who help in their education and understanding the subject, since we learn from each other as well. Students should be engaging actively with their education so that they can be independent individuals.
Teachers should be able to teach students the basic concepts as well as advance concepts. They should be self-regulators and effective teachers; therefore, they should plan their lesson on time and have specific objectives they wish to accomplish. They should not be bias but have an open mind because teachers are always learning from their students. Each child comes from different cultural backgrounds and may see one concept in different ways. Each student also learns at different pace so it is important that the teacher schedule office hours to assist and answer questions that the students may have.
As an aspiring teacher my philosophy is based on humanistic that focus on the student individually. Before I enter the field of teaching, I would make it my priority to know my student, their situation in life, and what are their previous academic achievements and failures. I will observe their interaction with other students by spending time with each student. Essentialism will influence my teaching goals to an extent as I would try to accomplish my goals as a teacher. My major philosophy is most links with progressivism. I believe that education should be child-centered and focus on the student having acquired problem solving skills. Students can have a successful education experience if their curriculum is structured to meet their needs and interest. They should be actively engaged in their education. They should not be push to achieve the level of education they will find appropriate to them.
My job as a teacher would go far beyond the basic skills. I will ensure that my classroom is an emotionally, socially, and physically safe environment for all my students. I would spend time with my students, this will help me to see how different and special they are and guide them as grow and succeed in their education. Education to me is very important and to be able to educate young minds would be a great accomplishment of mine.
