SAMPLE LESSON

Grade 7
Lesson plan:
Algebra

Introduction: Today’s lesson we are going to learn to solve for the value of “X” using algebra equations. There are several symbols use to solve algebra equations but today we will only cover a few. I will explain the one used in today’s class.
* means to multiply
+/- means positive or negative
/ means to divide
( ) means you would have to calculate the problems that is in the parenthesis.

Adding and substrating an equation:
Ex: x + 4 = 8, solve for the value of X

When you carry the (4) to the opposite side, it would then be a negative (-4)

Therefore X = 8-4

Then the answer for x as

X = 4

Multiplying an equation

Ex: 5(x + 2), solve the equation

To solve you would multiply 5 by the number or letter in the parenthesis.

Therefore,

5x + 10 is the answer for this equation.

Tools:

The website that is going in class and at home will help you to understand and assist in homework assignments. It is easy to use and the instructions are simple. Basics of Algebra

Enrichment:
This website student can used to enrich their learning as it solves problems with them. They would see smiley faces for their correct answers and a crying face for each incorrect
one. Teaching Treasures
